Welcome to the Discover Thomas Jefferson project!
The aim of this project is to study and celebrate the life and works of Thomas Jefferson and the American Founding Fathers.
That includes such individuals as: George Washington, John Adams, Patrick Henry, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison.
The Project Managers for Discover Thomas Jefferson are Prodos of Melbourne, Australia. And Sydney Kendall from Cincinnati, Ohio.
We believe that anyone who is serious about understanding history and culture, and/or making the world a better place, and/or improving their own thinking should study the writings of the Founding Fathers.
The ideas and ideals of the American Founding Fathers go beyond America and beyond the 18th Century.
The Founding Fathers laid down many principles that apply to all people of all nations and cultures. That's because they were interested in universal principles. i.e. Principles that applied to everyone - regardless of race, tradition, or what country they were in.
Those principles apply to Australia, India, France, and all countries - as much as they apply to the United States.
You can see this by contemplating the following quotes:
John Adams: "Property is surely a right of mankind as real as liberty."
Thomas Jefferson: "The exercise of a free trade with all parts of the world [is] possessed by [a people] as of natural right"
Benjamin Franklin: "The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either."
James Madison: "The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe with blood for centuries."
George Washington: "Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth."
Thomas Paine: "When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon."
Patrick Henry: "Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?"
Our job is:
- To collect and put online all the basic works of Thomas Jefferson and the Founding Fathers.
- To invite discussion of that work.
- To encourage appreciation of the life and work of the Founding Fathers.
- To develop study material for schools and discussion groups.
It's a big job - but we're very excited about it because it's an opportunity for us to improve our own understanding and appreciation.
Lots more soon! :-)
To Freedom & Prosperity!
